About Me
My name is Isabel Ornelas
I am a Mexican-American writer, director, and script supervisor born and raised in the San Fernando Valley.

At twelve years old, I declared I wanted to be a film director without even knowing what that truly meant.
Since then, my love of storytelling has only grown. I have always been surrounded by films and fascinated by their power to influence others, from watching Close Encounters of the Third Kind in my seventh-grade English class to The English Patient with my family at home.

A little bit more About Me

I earned my BA in Film Production from California State University, Northridge, with an emphasis in cinematography and minors in entrepreneurship and communication. I later returned to CSUN to complete my MFA in screenwriting. Along the way, I’ve worked as a projectionist in the Elaine and Alan Armer Screening Room, collaborated with filmmakers from NYFA and Columbia College Hollywood, and interned at Calling Card Group, where I researched film festivals and supported social media campaigns. I also assisted producer Christina Sibul during the awards campaign for Monica.

My short film, The Rotary Phone, which I wrote, directed, and co-produced, is currently in post-production and will soon be making its way to film festivals. I’m always writing new screenplays, dedicated to crafting entertaining, universal stories that spotlight characters often pushed to the sidelines.
